On Sunday, January 31st, 2021, Barbara Jean Berg (“Barb”), loving mother of one, grandmother of four, and great-grandmother of nine, passed away at the age of 89, in her home surrounded by family.
Barb was born on June 1st, 1931 in Rochester, MN to Leo and Mabel (White) Aaby. She married her high school sweetheart, David Berg, on June 23rd, 1951. In their years together, they enjoyed bowling, golfing at Willow Creek Golf Course where they were members, and socializing with friends. They also owned Fun City, a restaurant on Lake Zumbro, for many years.
In her later years, Barb loved to play her favorite card games, Bridge and Skipbo, with friends and family. Above all else, she cherished her role as Grandma, attending as many hockey games, soccer matches, and dance recitals as possible.
Barb was preceded in death by her husband David Berg, brother Gerald D. Aaby, sister Bonnie Kachelski, and parents.
She is survived by her son Scott (Carrie) Berg of Rochester, MN; four grandchildren Michael (Kirsten) Gurtner of Haughton, LA, Matthew (Tasha) Gurtner of Rochester, MN, Daniel (Kari) Gurtner of Rochester, MN, Kristie (Alex) Restrepo of Burnsville, MN; and nine great-grandchildren (Ethan, Chase, Hannah, Liam, Tayla, Graham, Joslyn, Braylon, and Hailey Gurtner). She is also survived by siblings Donald Aaby of St. Louis, MO and Orrin Peck of Rochester, MN.
Due to the pandemic, we will be postponing a celebration of life ceremony until this Spring when we can safely gather.
