Avis Luella Campbell was born February 1, 1914 to Floyd and Marie (Yennie) Campbell on a farm in Dodge County near Pine Island. She attended rural country school, Northrup Elementary School in Rochester and Pine Island High School.
Avis married Earl Weis on May 1, 1933 and together they raised three daughters on a farm west of Pine Island. In 1981 they moved into Pine Island shortly before Earl's death.
Avis took great pride in her flower and vegetable gardens and was a talented seamstress. She also liked crocheting and embroidery, creating many lovely projects. She was a very active member of the United Methodist Church in Pine Island, teaching 6th grade Sunday school and Bible school, working with the circles and Women's Society and being a youth fellowship leader. She was a Rebekah Lodge member for over 72 years and at one time served as Noble Grand. She worked seasonal jobs at the Pine Cheese Mart and Libby's corn packing season.
Avis and Earl did some traveling, but later she loved taking bus trips and flying. She was always ready to go on another trip and have a good time.
Avis was a caring generous person with a very giving heart, always ready to help someone in need.
Avis is survived by her three daughters, Mary Ann Weis of White Bear Lake, Evelyn Ritchie and Betty (Harlan) Engen, both of Rochester; one sister, Dorothy Trickey of Minnetonka, MN; seven grandchildren. Roger (Tina) Ritchie, Sue (Tim) Harrison, Bonnie Watson, Sandy Armbrust. Tracy Waters, and Brian (Alicia) Engen all of Rochester and Eric Engen of Bailey, CO; nine great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Avis was preceded in death by her husband, parents, step-father, four sisters, three brothers, one son-in-law and one granddaughter.
The family would like to thank Pine Haven Care Center and St. Croix Hospice for their tender loving care.
