Arthur F. Snyder Jr. age 89 of Lake City passed away Sunday, August 24, 2008 at the Lake City Hospital Mayo Health Systems.

Arthur was born June 14, 1919 in Minneapolis, MN to Arthur & Lillian (Oys) Snyder. He graduated from high school in Minneapolis he also attended the University of Minnesota. He served in the Army during WW II, and upon returning from the Pacific Theater he was discharged. He was recalled to active duty during the Korean War were he maid a career of the Army until retiring as a Colonel, in 1971, at Fort Leavenworth. While in the Army he married Faye Redman on April 1, 1944, at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas. While in the Army, he commanded several Army units and several tours of duty in New Guinea, Philippines, Korea and Germany. He receved several decorations for his outstanding service culminating with the Legion of Merit. After retiring from the military, he taught school and worked as a counselor and principal in the Leavenworth, Kansas School District. In 2003 they moved to Lake City, MN. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lake City. Arthur enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his grandchildren.

Arthur is survived by his wife, Faye; three sons, Arthur F. (Pamela) Snyder III of Rochester, Matthew (Carol) Snyder of Oskaloosa, KS, Peter (Joann) Snyder of Idaho Falls, ID; a daughter Janet (Michael) Jarvis of Barre, VT; 14 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren, a daughter in-law Gayle Snyder of Lake City; a brother, John (Joyce) Snyder of Eden Prairie, MN. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael J. Snyder.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, August 27, 2008, at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lake City, with Father Richard Dernek officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Minneapolis. Friends may call one hour before the service at the church. Mahn Family Funeral Home Anderson-Peterson Chapel Lake City. Memorials are preferred to the St. Mary's Catholic Church Building fund. Military Rites will be performed by Lake City American Legion Post 110 and VFW Post 8729.
