Arthur Oxfurth

Arthur Oxfurth, 67, of Red Wing, died Saturday March 3, 2007, at Fairview Red Wing Medical Center. He was born on May 17, 1939 in Newark, New Jersey to Walter and Rose (Lurker) Oxfurth. He graduated from Westside High School in Newark in 1959 and then attended Newark College of Engineering. He then served in the US Navy for 11 years. During that time he served in the Vietnam War aboard submarines as a Nuclear Electronic Technician. He attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer. Following his discharge he worked in the Commercial Nuclear Power Industry for over 37 years where he was involved with the power plant construction, engineering, operations, training and nuclear regulation throughout the United States, Spain and the Philippines. On April 22, 1961 he was married to Winimae Robert in Newark, New Jersey. He was member of the American Legion and enjoyed fly fishing and tying flies for fishing, reading and hockey. Survivors include his wife, Wini; four sons, Steven (Faye) Oxfurth of Hilliard, Florida, Michael Oxfurth of Fairfax, Virginia, Keith (Karen) Oxfurth of Centreville, Virginia and Kenneth Oxfurth of Wichita, Kansas; one daughter, Rose (Roger) Schaffer of Ashburn, Virginia; 14 grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Oxfurth of Gainesville, Virginia and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents. Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2007 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints with Bishop Erik Gram officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 8, 2007, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and at the church for one hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred to the Red Wing Area Food Shelf.
