Arnold Herman Zimmerman, of Mantorville, MN, died on Friday, November 11, 2011 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Arnold was born on January 29, 1949 in Rochester, MN to Arnold Albin and Dorothy (Gray) Zimmerman. He was raised in rural Pine Island and rural Byron. He graduated from Byron High School in 1968. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, and served 20 years, stationed in the United States and Germany working as a mechanic. He married Donna Andrews and they later divorced. He married Theresa Kennedy on February 26, 1993 in Stewartville. He worked for Lesmeister Truck Center in Rochester, Ron's Auto in Pine Island. Then he began Arnold's Repair in 2003, running it until health concerns forced its closure recently. Arnold enjoyed deer hunting, bowling, NASCAR, spending time with his grandchild, and working out of his shop. He was a member of the Byron American Legion.
Arnold is survived by his wife, Theresa Zimmerman of Mantorville; daughter, Dawn Zimmerman of Mantorville, MN; step-daughter, Kelly Jo Zimmerman of Pine Island, MN; granddaughter, Ellie Godtland of Mantorville, MN; five sisters, Sharon Button of Rockford, IL, Sandy (Ernest) Hanson of Stewartville, MN, Gloria (Mike) Whalen of Rochester, MN, Gail Kechafer of Rochester, MN, Tammy (John) Ziemer of Rochester, MN; two aunts, Lela Kennedy and Alice Zimmerman both of Pine Island, MN and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 13, from 4-7 PM at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Mahler Chapel in Pine Island. The funeral will be on Monday, November 14, at 11AM at Stordahl Lutheran Church in Roscoe Township, the Reverend Kathleen Lowery officiating, with a visitation one hour prior to the service.
