Arnold William Steffens

August 27, 1927 — March 21, 2012

Arnold William Steffens, age 84, of Zumbrota died on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at the Pine Haven Care Center in Pine Island where he had resided for the past several weeks.
He was born on August 8, 1927, in Red Wing, to Rudholph and Edna (Firl) Steffens. On September 28, 1927 he was baptized at United Lutheran Church and confirmed by Reverend Otto Mostrom in 1941 at Lands Lutheran Church. Arnold attended country grade schools in Goodhue County. Arnold entered the US Army on October 11, 1945. He was stationed in Japan during World War II and was honorably discharged on January 29, 1947. On September 21, 1950, he was united in marriage to Wanda E. Goertz at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Zumbrota by Reverend Paul Horn. Arnold was employed at Wanamingo Elevator, Tilly's Oil Station in Zumbrota, and Maple Island Creamery in Wanamingo. He was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he held several church offices and Charles Cowden American Legion Post #184 in Pine Island.

Arnold enjoyed playing cards, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

Arnold is survived by his wife, Wanda (Goertz); two daughters, Barbara (Bill) Eberhart of Zumbrota, Debora (Robert) Paulson of Faribault; one son, Ronald (Julie) Steffens of Zumbrota; grandchildren, Scott Ellingson of Mazeppa, Kimberly (Mike) Burke of Rochester, Keith (Deb) Ellingson of Albuquerque, NM, Karen (Steve) Wetzstein of West Concord, Tonya (Craig) Sammon of Rochester; step-grandchildren, Chris (Janett) Cotant and Becky (Lynn) Scheidel both of Cresco, IA, Lori (Tom) Kriener of Fort Atkinson, IA; great-grandchildren, Adam Ellingson of Austin, Christopher Herold of France, Shelby (Ryan Wetzstein) Herold of West Concord, Riley and Morgan Sammon of Rochester, Haley Ellingson of Mazeppa, Kayla and Ty Ellingson of Albuquerque, NM; nine step-great-grandchildren; brother, Luverne (Loa) Steffens of Junction City, KS and sister, Evelyn Porter of Rochester.

Arnold was preceded in death by his sister, Delorse Blakstad and his parents Rudholph and Edna.

Memorial service will be Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 1:00 PM at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Reverend Wayne Schoch officiating. Burial will be in the Zumbrota Cemetery with Military Honors provided by Charles Cowden American Legion Post #184 of Pine Island. Visitation will be on Friday, March 23, 2012 from 5:00 - 7:30 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home- Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.
