Arnold Richard Stafford

Arnold Richard Stafford, age 87, of Pine Island, a retired farmer, passed away May 7, 2015 at Pine Haven Care Center in Pine Island where he has resided since March of 2015.
Funeral services for Arnold will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the Pine Island United Methodist Church with Pastor Carolyn Westlake and Pastor Rick Ormsby officiating. Katha Johnson will be organist for Pastor Dan Ashpole, soloist. Family will receive relatives and friends one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be in the Pine Island Cemtery with full military rites. Pallbearers will be Jason Weis, Shawn Stafford, Zach Nelson, Sathish Selvaraju, Jim Kelly, Andrew Hare, Larry Runge and Brian Weis. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jerry Beckman, Ralph Carter, Dick Houghton, Dick Erwin and Ken Harper.
Arnold was born on October 3, 1927, in New Haven Township, Olmsted County, the son of Arthur and Edna (Glasenappe) Stafford. He attended district 80 country school and the Pine Island School System. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Pine Island. In 1945 he enlisted in the United States Army where he was stationed in Virginia. He spent this time working on the railroad. He was honorably discharged in 1947. He then worked on the Calvin Andrist farm near Mantorville. It was during this time he met his wife Anne (Andrist) Weis, a sister to Calvin. Arnold and Anne got married September 17, 1949 at the Methodist Church Parsonage. They lived one mile south of Pine Island and farmed for 35 years. They sold that farm and moved the another farm nearby. During this time, Arnold sold seedcorn, raised beef and did crop farming. In 2006, they sold their farm and moved into Pine Island to a townhome that was destroyed four years later in the 2010 flood. They then moved to Evergreen Place in Pine Island. Recently, Arnold moved to the Pine Haven Care Center.
He was a member of the Pine Island United Methodist Church his entire married life and also belonged to the Odd Fellows and the American Legion. He enjoyed enjoyed having coffee at the local cafe with his friends. He loved playing cards, shooting pool, reading and watching Westerns and going on fishing trips. He had a strong love for farming and cattle.
Arnold is survived by his wife of 65 years: Anne of Pine Island, stepson: Raymond (Candy) Weis of Chatfield, sons: David (Darlene) Stafford of Pine Island, and Chris (Jeanne) Stafford of Stewartville, daughter-in-law: Neletta (Ken) Harper of Rochester and sister: Deloris Skalisky of Pine Island, grandchildren: Michelle (Jim) Kelly, Jennifer Weis, Jason (Melanie) Weis, Jill (Nate) Carlson, Shawn (Amy) Stafford, Sara (Sathish) Selvaraju and Alisha (Zach) Nelson and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister: Alice Prummer and stepson: Wayne Weis.
