Arnold John Rieck, 89, of Bay City, died Friday, April 24, 2009 at the Ellsworth Care Center. He was born September 12, 1919 in Red Wing, to Bernhard and Elsa (Hauschildt) Rieck and attended rural school on Hill Avenue. He married Irene Bade on July 20, 1943 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Frontenac. In 1954 they moved to Bay City where he farmed until 1977 when they sold the farm. He then drove truck for Bay City Sand Mine, retiring in the late 80's. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Frontenac, a past member of the NFO and a former board member of the Consolidated Breeder's Board. He enjoyed playing cards, baking, gardening and watching his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Irene Rieck of Bay City; 5 children, Rolland (Janet) Rieck of Baldwin, Rodney (Sue) Rieck of Taylor, Wisc., Lynda (John) Kuesel, Laurie (Lee Gilles) Studer and LuAnn (Doug Pfingsten) Dahl all of Bay City; 7 grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren and one brother, Donald (Connie) Rieck of Ellsworth.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Margaret Fitschen and a brother, Eldon Rieck.
Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Frontenac with Reverend Christopher Hoppe officiating. Visitation will be 2 hours prior to the service at the church. Casketbearers will be Jason Rieck, Nathan Rieck, Brian Rieck, Cole Kuesel, Jon Dahl, and Brad Ferg. Honorary Casketbearers will be Kari Kuesel and Tricia Ferg
