Arnold Boraas

February 2, 1916 — May 16, 2012

Arnold Boraas age 96 of Wanamingo died on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at the Pine Haven Care Center in Pine Island. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, May 20, 2012 at 1:00 PM at Lands Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Pastor David Krinke officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2012 from 3:00 - 5:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Sunday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Arnold Boraas was born on February 2, 1916 in Cherry Grove Township, Goodhue County, MN to Andrew and Clara (nee Syverson) Boraas. He grew up on the family farm, attended country school, was active in 4H and graduated from Zumbrota High School in 1933. He farmed with his parents. On October 19, 1947 he married Adeline Sexe at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hills, MN. They farmed with his parents until they purchased the farm and expanded their farming operation. Arnold lived on the farm until he entered the care center. He was a member of Lands Lutheran Church and the National Farmers Organization. Arnold enjoyed farming on his 500 acre dairy and crop farm, traveling, fishing, politics and spending time with his grandchildren.  He was an avid bird watcher and enjoyed feeding the birds. Arnold enjoyed going to the Minnesota State Fair, and loved his animals. He ran for state representative in the 1960's. Arnold will be remembered for his kindness to all. His family was of the utmost importance to him. Arnold was proud to be 100% Norwegian!
Arnold is survived by his wife, Adeline, children, Bruce Boraas of Minneapolis, Rodney Boraas of Wanamingo, Renae (Allen) Buck of Oronoco and Bonita (Steve) Patton of Rochester; grandchildren, Andrew Boraas, Angela (Michael) Matiash, Matthew (Suparada) Buck, Blake Patton, Devon Patton and Miles Patton; great-grandsons, Aaron and Caleb Matiash; nieces, Evelyn McChesney and Cheryl Thomas, both of Seattle.
Arnold was preceded in death by his sisters, Ingwalla Walstad and Kaisa Schmidt.
