Arnold Albert Betcher

Arnold Albert Betcher, 99, of Red Wing, died Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at Deer Crest. He was born December 2, 1913, to William and Elise (Fitschen) Betcher in Hay Creek, Minn. where he later attended country parochial school. He was drafted into the U. S. Army in 1941 where he served until he was honorably discharged in 1944 and was awarded a Silver Star medal. After his time in the service Arnold worked as a hired man for different farms in the area. On September 20, 1951 he married Verna Hadler at St. John Lutheran in Minneola. They farmed in Belvidere until he retired in 1978, though he continued to work on the farm. In 1992 they moved to Goodhue where they lived until moving to Deer Crest in 2010. Arnold was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran, Belvidere where he also held a seat on the church council. While in Belvidere, he also was a town board member for many years. He loved to fish and had gone to Canada many times for fly-in-fishing trips. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Arnold is survived by his loving wife Verna of Red Wing, four children, Glen (Janette) Betcher of Zumbrota, Eugene (Sherri) Betcher of Bellechester, Sharon (Jeffrey M. Rice) Betcher of Langley, Wash. and Arlan (Brenda) Betcher of Belvidere; 10 grandchildren, Timothy, Bryan, Eric, Andrew, Ty, Ashlyn, Matthew, Jackie, Anthony and Sarah and six great-grandchildren.
Arnold was preceded in death by five brothers, Walter, Arthur, Leonard, Carl and Harold Betcher; two sisters, Edna Betcher and Verna Wegner.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Friday, April 5, 2013, at St. Peter's Lutheran, Belvidere with Rev. Scott Fiege officiating. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, April 4 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson Mahn Chapel and at the church one hour prior to service. Memorial preferred to the church.
