Arlene C. Martin, age 78, of Rochester, died Saturday, March 22, 2008 at Season's Hospice. A memorial service will be held at 11 A.M., Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at Mahn Family Funeral Home-Rochester Chapel with Reverend Carol L. Shaffer officiating. Interment will be in St. Clement's Cemetery in Hammond on April 27th, 2008.
Arlene Carolyn Soderberg was born August 13, 1929 in Iron Mountain, Michigan to Carl and Edna (Anderson) Soderberg. Following her graduation she attended the Grant Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago, Illinois. On February 3, 1951 Arlene married Dr. Richard Martin, an optometrist, in Crystal Falls, Michigan. The couple had lived in Iowa and various locations in Minnesota prior to moving to Rochester in 1963. Richard died February 21, 2006. Arlene volunteered as a Pink Lady at Rochester Methodist Hospital. She loved camping and spending time with her family.
Arlene is survived by two daughters, Sherrie (Doug) Opsahl of Rochester and Mary (Jim) Northway of Hastings, Minnesota; two sons, Wayne (Mary Ellyn) Martin of Glenwood, Minnesota and John (Greta) Martin of Millville, Minnesota; eleven grandchildren, Corey, Justin, Rachel and Ryan Edge, Marina and Brianna Martin, Laura and Travis Northway and Alex, Jeremy and Jennifer Martin; and five great grandchildren, Dylan, Trinity, Richard and Ezra Edge and Ethan Opsahl; a brother, Cal (Betty) Soderberg and sister-in-law, Elizabeth (Francis) LaVallie.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Dennis and a grandson, Nicholas Martin.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Memorials are suggested to Season's Hospice.
Arrangements are with Mahn Family Funeral Home-Rochester Chapel.
