Arlene Hruska

August 11, 1930 — October 20, 2024

Arlene Hruska, age 94, passed away on October 20, 2024 at her home where she lived independently until she died.

Arlene was born in to John Jensen and Irma Kempe in 1930 in St. Charles, MN.

After graduating from Dover high school, she attended Drake University where she earned her degree in Music. While at Drake she was President of the interdormitory council, a member of Beta Gamma Kappa Christian Society and in her senior year she qualified to become a member of the national music fraternity, Sigma Alpha Iota.

After graduating from Drake, Arlene taught elementary music in Atlantic, Iowa for a year before returning to Dover.

In 1953, she married Paul Hruska of Lewiston MN. They had two children, Edward and Lauren. She and Paul later divorced.

At the request of the Dover school system, she established a music program there in 1954.

For 19 years she taught elementary and special education music at Rochester Public Schools. During this time, she also earned her Master's equivalency. She loved working with children and was thrilled to see some of her students pursue careers in music.

Throughout her life Arlene enjoyed performing in several music groups as a keyboard accompanist to soloists, choirs and church functions.

She held a special place in her heart for her family and their accomplishments. She seldom missed their activities and she loved to babysit her grandchildren.

Arlene is survived by her son, Edward Hruska, daughter, Lauren Hruska (Peter Libera), grandchildren: Holly (Steve) Owens, Drew (Keeley) Hruska, Isaiah (Teal) Libera, Marcus Libera, and great grandchildren, Reece and Taylor Owens, Evan and Henry Hruska, and Greyson, Noah, and Alexander Libera.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter-in-law Susan Hruska, and her sister MJ Schreiner.

The family will have a private gathering to celebrate Arlene's life.
