Arland G. Sundry

Arland G. "Doc" Sundry, 84, died suddenly on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at his home in Wanamingo. He was born on May 5, 1927, the son of Archie and Gladys (Hoven) Sundry. He married Thelma Husbyn on May 31, 1946 and raised four children. Arland was a resident and businessman of Wanamingo, with a life of long time community service. In earlier years, he enjoyed singing with the Villagers musical group, helped fundraise for the Wanamingo swimming pool, and volunteered as a fireman for twenty four-years. He was very active at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wanamingo, and was the church choir director for over forty-five years. He was a member of the City Council, Charter member of the first Lions Club formed in town and was an active member until his death. He especially enjoyed music, choir work, musicals, golfing, lawn work, and traveling.
The importance of faith, family and friends was the message Arland left his family at every special occasion. He was devoted to and leaves behind his loving wife, Thelma Sundry of Wanamingo; three daughters, Susan (Larry) Berg of McGregor, MN, Terry (Scott) Rivard of Minneapolis; and Gina (Joel) Laaveg of Clear Lake, IA; one son, Craig (Stephani) Sundry of Shorewood; twelve grandchildren, Tricia, Heather, Jordan, Brandon, Megan, Philip, Daniel, Peter, Jack, Charlie, Matthew, and Lauren; eleven great-grandchildren, Madelynn, Taylor, Corinn, Ethan, Isaac, Bella, Max, Lila, Carson, Charlotte, and Cullen; one brother, Charles (Cathie) Sundry of Chula Vista, CA; special cousin, Judy (Haye) Zylstra of Kenyon. Arland was preceded in death by one sister, Carol (Dwayne) Dallmann.
Memorial service will be 3:00 PM on Sunday, January 22, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Reverend Christopher Culuris officiating. Burial will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Wanamingo. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 PM Saturday, January 21, 2012 at Mahn Family Funeral Home- Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
