Areta Thomas age 83 of Lake City passed away January 16, 2010 at the Lake City Hospital Mayo Health Care System.
Areta Liacakes was born July 27, 1926 in Dearborn, MI. to John & Evyenia (Petropoulous) Liacakes. She married Louis Thomas July 2, 1950 in Dearborn, MI. After they were married they lived in Rochester. She was the owner of Areti Management in Lake City for 20 years. She also worked as a Pharmaceutical Technician at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. Areta was a member of St. Herman's Greek Orthodox Church in Minneapolis and People of Praise Christian Community in Minneapolis. Here husband Louis passed away November 3, 2002.
She is survived by three daughters Dr. Norrie (Forrest) Thomas Gillson of Minneapolis, MN, Michelle (John) Pesonen of Plymouth, MN, Frances (Martin) Willard of Burnsville, MN; one son John-JT (Cindy) of Lake City; 15 Grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; a sister Toula (Alexander) Brata of Dearborn, MI, Sister in-law Margarita Liacakes of Dearborn, MI. She was preceded by her husband Louis, son William, grandson, Nicholas Thomas, daughter in-law, Niki Thomas; son in-law Forrest Gillson; three brothers, Thomas, Robert and Peter.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday January at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anargyroi Greek Orthodox Church in Rochester with Father Paul Wesche and Father Mark Munoz co-officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Rochester. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home Rochester Chapel . A Trisagion services will be held Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are preferred to St. Herman's Orthodox Church.
