Andrew "Andy" Smerud

Andy J. Smerud, 56, of Red Wing, died Friday, Nov. 11, 2016 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born July 19, 1960, in Rochester, to Terrence and Joan (Anderson) Smerud. He grew up in California prior to moving to Red Wing, where he attended Red Wing Central High. On March 5, 1983, he married Lynette Diercks in Las Vegas. They lived in Red Wing and raised their two boys. For over 23 years, he was employed at Tim Amdahl's Red Wing Motors, formerly Jorgensen's, as a mechanic and service manager. He retired in 2003 due to health reasons. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. Throughout his life, Andy enjoyed traveling, boating, fishing, camping, going to baseball games and reading. He was very handy and there wasn't anything he couldn't fix. Always willing to help and have fun, he had a great sense of humor and was quick-witted. Family and friends were very important to him and he loved spending time with them.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Lynette of Red Wing; 2 sons, Travis and Ryan both of Red Wing; his mother, Joan of Austin; 4 sisters, Elizabeth (Emmett) Pearson of Welch, Pamela Bushaw of Upsala, Barbara Smerud of Austin and Deborah (Billy) Hill of Kansas City, MO and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, grandparents, a nephew, Matt Burt and a niece, Allison Pearson.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, November 17, 2016 at St. John's Lutheran Church with Rev. Todd Engel officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. On Wednesday, Nov. 16, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
