Amy Lillian Tangen

January 27, 1925 — October 27, 2012

Amy L. Tangen, age 87, of Pine Island, died peacefully on Saturday, October 27, 2012. She was born on January 27, 1925, in Red Wing, to H. August and Margaret (Bargsten) Lohmann. She was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota. Amy graduated from Zumbrota High School and was the class Valedictorian. On November 18, 1944 she married Lloyd Tangen at Christ Lutheran Church. They had been married for over 67 years. While Lloyd was overseas she worked and attended school at the University of Minnesota. After his discharge they farmed with her parents. In 1950 they purchased a farm in Roscoe Township where they were currently living. She worked for 20 years for Foldcraft as an inventory manager.

Amy was a lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church. She was very active in the church choir, couples club, taught Sunday school for over 30 years, ladies aid holding every officer position, in local and district LWMS. She was a leader in 4-H and Goodhue County extension group for many years.

Amy was an avid gardener, knitter, and reader. She enjoyed playing cards, word finds, her and Lloyd enjoyed traveling to every state, but two. Spending time with family, and attending her children's and grandchildren's sporting events was very important to her.

Amy is survived by her husband, Lloyd; children, Paul (Helen) Tangen of Grand Meadow, Mary (Lowell) Berglund of Dawson, Don (LeAnn) Tangen of Sartell, Susan (Daniel) Abel of Cedar Rapids, IA., Lowell (Kathleen) Tangen of Wanamingo, Ann (Paul) Nibbe of Zumbrota; 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; brothers, Martin Lohmann of Zumbrota, David (Gladys) Lohmann of Zumbrota; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Amy was preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law Jean and Bill Jensch; grandson, Hans Abel; sisters, Ruth Smith, Mabel Lohmann; brother, Arnold Lohmann who was killed in WII; and an infant brother.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 1, 2012 at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Reverend Wayne Schoch officiating. Burial will be in the Zumbrota Cemetery. Visitation will from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
