Amerigo "Cappy" Cappola, age 89, of Red Wing died Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at his home at Potter Ridge. He was born on August 4, 1926 in Lockport, NY to Pasquale and Liberata (Spezzo) Cappola. He graduated from Lockport High School and Rochester Business Institute in Rochester, NY. Cappy went on to serve in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked for Bethlehem Steel Co. in Pittsburgh, PA before moving to Minnesota and working at Red Wing Iron Works. He was later a partner in North Star Mechanical, Inc. in Red Wing. He was an active member of the Church of St. Joseph and the Knights of Columbus for over 50 years. He was also an avid golfer and had a great passion and love for his family.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elizabeth "Bette" Cappola; four children, James, Tom, and John Cappola and Patricia Harteneck; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary and Yolanda.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Nick; sister, Jeanette; and two nephews, Paul and Patrick.
Mass of the Resurrection will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 25, 2015 at the Church of St. Joseph with Father Thomas M. Kommers presiding. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, September 24 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and at the church for one hour prior to the service.
