Alvin John Harder

Alvin John Harder, 82, of Lake City passed away Saturday, June 11, 2011 at his residence. He was born on September 16, 1928 in Lostwood, ND to John and Sarah (Lepp) Harder. He grew up in Warroad attending school there until he began working on the family farm. He later logged and then worked at Marvin Windows. He married Mildred Dick on September 16, 1949 in Langdon, ND. They lived in Warroad for seven years then moved to Hastings for 25 years, where Alvin worked as a mechanic at the Oldsmobile dealer and later as a marine mechanic at Ericksons Marine. They moved to Faribault where he taught marine mechanics at the Votech School until retiring in 1991. Alvin was very proud of his Master Mechanic certification for Mercury Marine. After retirement they moved to Lake City and Alvin worked part time at Smitty's Marine and wintered in Mission, TX. Mildred passed away on April 18, 2004. On May 6, 2006 he married Aneta Moore. He was a member of Hiawatha Baptist Church. Alvin enjoyed music and sang in a southern gospel quartet and played the harmonica.
He is survived by his wife, Aneta of Lake City; two sons, Curtis (Sue) of Guthrie, Oklahoma, Roger (Lynne) of Plymouth, Michigan; Brother, Jerry (Twila) of Hastings, Minnesota; sister, Adeline (Will) Janzen of Mountain Lake, Minnesota; 7 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren, and numerous friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Mildred and son Raymond.
Funeral Service will be 2PM Wednesday, June 15 at Hiawatha Valley Baptist Church with Reverend Charles Freimel. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Hastings. Pallbearers will be Lucas Harder, Jacob Harder, Casey Harder, Ron Harder, Matt Stensgard, and Garrett Stensgard. Honorary Pallbearer will be Josh Harder. Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 14 from 4-7PM at Mahn Family Funeral Home Anderson-Peterson Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
