Alverda M. Moritz

Alverda M. Moritz, 82, of Red Wing died Wednesday, April 03, 2013 at the Three Links Care Center in Northfield. She was born on July 13, 1930 to Mandt and Anna (Hauge) Gunderson in Whitehall, Wisc. Alverda grew up in Osseo, Wisc. where she attended school. She met her husband, Karl Moritz, while working as a waitress and the two were married on February 25, 1950 in Osseo. She and Karl eventually made their home in Spring Valley where she worked as a nurse's aide and became one of Spring Valley's first licensed EMTs. In 1987 she moved to Red Wing where she then worked at the Red Wing Health Center for many years. Alverda enjoyed collecting autographs for her grandson, particularly those of Minnesota sports heroes as she enjoyed sports of all kinds. She also enjoyed fishing and would yearly take week long fishing trips with her family. She taught Sunday school and was an election judge in Spring Valley for many years. She loved baking, bird watching and most of all, spending time with her family.

Alverda is survived by her three children, Karl (Linda) Moritz, Ann Moritz and Debra Moritz all of Red Wing; one grandson, Matt (Sharon) Moritz of Red Wing; two granddaughters, Melissa Moritz of Raleigh, N. C. and Amanda Moritz of Red Wing; as well as many other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Karl Moritz; brother, Eldon (Sandy) Gunderson; sisters, Helen (Pastor Robert) Arneson and Ann (Ernest) Edwards.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm, Friday, April 5, 2013 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Red Wing with Rev. Lynne Rigg and Rev. Kristen Schlauderaff officiating. Burial be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
