Al Settle, 74, of Lake City passed away peacefully on May 18, 2023, in Goodhue, MN.

Al was born on October 26, 1948, to Alva C. and Beatrice (Vogel) Settle in Manitowoc, WI. The family moved to Plainview, MN, the following year. In 1957, they moved to LaGrange, IL. Al graduated from Lyons Township High School in LaGrange, IL in 1966. Al honed his diligence, attention to detail, and strong work ethic as a water meter reader during high school. He earned an Associate's Degree from the College of DuPage and studied engineering at the University of IL-Circle Campus.

While employed as a draftsman and project engineer at Hendrickson Truck Mfg in Lyons, IL, Al received a patent for his leaf spring design! In 1987, he became the computer operations manager at Federal Signal Corporation in University Park, IL; and the Settles moved to New Lenox. He completed his Bachelor's Degree in Business and Information Technology at Governors State University in 1994.

Al decided to leave the potholes of the Illinois roadways and move to greener pastures in Lake City. In 2000, Al and Connie became partners in Wurst Wells Creek Farm. Al enjoyed interacting with people and putting his knowledge to purpose, so after retirement he worked part time at Cabela's, Wise Ace Hardware, drove School Bus for Bluff Country, and hauled fertilizer for Ag Partners in Goodhue.

Al will be remembered as a man of integrity. Al was a loving family man who applied himself fully to his work and hobbies. He was a proud member of the Patriot Guard and Frontenac Sportsmen Club, and an active member of St John's Lutheran Church. Al loved woodworking, making fishing rods, hunting, fishing, and riding his Harley Davidson. Al said being a Grandpa was one of the greatest joys of his life. Al was an intelligent, loving father and leaves his strength, wisdom, laughter, and many memories rooted deeply in his children's hearts.

Al married Connie Wurst on June 1, 1974, at St John's Lutheran Church in Frontenac, MN. They were blessed with four children and six grandchildren. He is survived by wife, Connie; daughters Hilary (Nolan) Lamb of Elmhurst, IL; Laura (James) Carole of Lake Zurich, IL; and son, Blake (Erin) Settle of Lake City; and grandchildren Miles, (twins) Autumn and Claira Settle and Trevor, Micah and Eliana Lamb; sisters Barbara (Ken) Bibly of Elwood, IL, Audrey Gilbert, Chadwick, MO; Mary Worth, West Chicago, IL;  and Ann (John) LaBarge of Fairfax, VA,; stepsister Sharon (Neal) Jones, Paris, TN; stepbrother, Edward (Candis) Katzberg, Amboy, IL; brothers-in-law; Kenneth (Susan) Wurst, Roseville, MN; Allen Wurst, Frontenac, MN; John (Diane) Wurst, Lake City, MN; sister-in-law Donna Wurst, Lake City, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his dear son, Michael, his parents Alva C. and Beatrice Settle, stepfather Henry Katzberg, in-laws, Maurice and Elaine Wurst, sisters Karen (Robert) O'Malley and Linda Davidenko, brother-in-law Edward Worth, nephew James Worth, brothers-in-law Daryl and Scott Wurst.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 27th at 11am at St John's Lutheran Church in Frontenac with Rev. Alan Horn officiating. The service will be live-streamed on the Mahn Family Funeral Home Facebook page.  . Video of service Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Lake City. Visitation Friday from 4 to 7pm at the Mahn Family Funeral Home Anderson-Peterson Chapel Lake City and one hour before the service at the church.
