OBITUARY: Alton H. Friedrich
Funeral services for Alton H. Friedrich will be at 2:00 PM on Sunday, November 25, 2007 at Christ Lutheran Church, Zumbrota with Reverend Erich Westphal officiating. Music will be provided by Carol Schumacher. Casketbearers will be Mark Friedrich, Trevor Helder, Gary Smith, Kevin Crary, Jamie Breidel and David Friedrich. Burial will follow in the Zumbrota Cemetery.
Alton, age 87, of Zumbrota died on Monday, November 19, 2007 at the Pine Haven Care Center. He was born Alton Holst Friedrich on March 28, 1920 in Pine Island to Christian and Anna (Holst) Friedrich. He attended White Willow Country School in Goodhue County. He farmed around the Goodhue County area and later entered the U.S. Army. After 18 months he was discharged from the U.S. Army and returned to his home. He lived in Red Wing where he worked at Ferrin's Furniture Store. On May 17, 1945 he married Elaine Crary in Zumbrota, MN. They moved to Zumbrota in 1948 and Alton worked for Demuth Steel Products and retired in 1983. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and enjoyed fishing and card playing.
Alton is survived by his wife, Elaine of Zumbrota; one son, Orlin (Nancy) Friedrich of Goodhue; one daughter, Cheryl (Daniel) Helder of Stewartville; five grandchildren: Megan (Matthew) Daigle; Mari (Nicholas) Geiger, Mark Friedrich, Bridget Helder, and Trevor Helder; three great-grandchildren: Sophia Daigle, Tayven Geiger, Ayden Helder; his step-mother, Clara Friedrich, of Zumbrota; four sisters: Gladys Smith of Zumbrota, Lorraine (Charles) Peterson of Grantsburg, WI, Sharon (John) Booth of Osakis, MN, and Linda (Jon) Womack of Cucamonga, CA; four brothers: Christian (Diane) Friedrich of Zumbrota, Gordon (Barb) Friedrich of Cannon Falls, Wayne (Sandy) Friedrich of Zumbrota, and Larry (Deanna) Friedrich of Pomona, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Eldon Friedrich; one grandson, Matthew Friedrich; four brothers: Art, Donald, LaVerne, and Orville Friedrich; and one sister, Eleanor.
Visitation will be from 4:00 ? 7:00 PM on Saturday, November 24, 2007 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home ? Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Sunday one hour prior to the service at the church.
