Alma A. Rasmussen age 94 of Pine Island died on Saturday, November 24, 2007 at the Pine Haven Care Center. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, November 29, 2007 at 1:00 PM at Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Pine Island with Reverends Kip Groettum and John Torris Lohre co-officiating. Burial will be in Pine Island Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, November 28, 2007 from 3:00 ? 7:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home ? Mahler Chapel in Pine Island and on Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Alma Ann Klingsporn was born on November 17, 1913 on her parents' farm in Pine Island Township, the daughter of Mary (Lueck) and William "Eddie" Klingsporn. She grew up on the family farm and attended country school. In 1935 the family moved to Pine Island.
On September 27, 1939 Alma married Maurice L. Rasmussen at her parents' home in Pine Island.
Alma worked at the Pine Island Bakery before joining her brother, Arnold in owning and operating the Rainbow Caf? that opened on May 3, 1941 in its present location. Alma retired from the business prior to the birth of twins in 1945. The business was sold in 1946.
In 1956, Alma and Maurice purchased the Rainbow Caf?, operating it until their retirement in 1979. The couple were grand marshals of the Pine Island Cheese Festival Parade in 1978 and the same year were named Bosses of the Year by the Pine Island Jaycees.
In July, 1995 they moved to Kasson and in April, 2000, moved to Evergreen Place in Pine Island. Maurice died on November 14, 2001. Alma entered the Pine Haven Care Center in March, 2003.
In earlier years, Alma enjoyed cooking and baking, especially pies. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was devoted to Maurice during his extended illness. She always made family gatherings, birthdays and holidays so special. After retirement, she made afghans and hand-sewn quilts for her children and grandchildren. Her beautiful flower gardens were enjoyed by many. She was a member of Saint Paul Lutheran Church.
Alma is survived by three daughters, Marjorie (Richard) Charlton of Medford, Janet (James) Kundert of Ramsey, Sally (John "Mike") Dea of Mesa, AZ; a son, John (Mary) Rasmussen of Loudon, TN; a brother, Arnold Klingsporn of Pine Island; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Esther Krueger; a brother, Joe Klingsporn; and a granddaughter, Joy Kundert.
Casketbearers are her grandchildren, Rick Charlton, Jay Rasmussen, Jennifer Scheller, Joshua Kundert, Ryan Dea and Kevin Dea. Honorary bearers are her great grandchildren, Brenan Charlton, Brady Rasmussen, Tyler Wengler, Mackenzie Scheller and Addison Dea.
The family suggests memorials to Pine Haven Care Center or Saint Paul Lutheran Church.
