Allen Hansen

May 14, 1969 — December 28, 2024

Allen Edward Hansen, 55, of Lake City, passed away unexpectedly of complications from Congestive Heart Failure, at Hansen's Harbor on December 28, 2024.

Allen was born May 14, 1969 to Peter and Jane Hansen in Lake City. He grew up, lived, and worked his entire life at Hansen's Harbor, getting his start by running forklifts by the age of 10. In his later years, he managed the business and did all the maintenance, boat repairs, and care. He was proud of the development of the building of the harbor store as well as many docks over the years and the countless boats they repaired and rescued.

Allen graduated from Lincoln High School in Lake City, class of 1987. Allen graduated from Suomi College in Michigan in '89 with an AAA in Criminal Justice and then in 1992, graduated from Wartburg College with Bachelor's degrees in Accounting, Law Enforcement, and Sociology. He enlisted in the Army Reserve in 1993, graduated OCS in 1997, and served for more than 11 years, achieving the rank of Capitan. He was deployed to Iraq with the 4th ID in 2003 and was awarded a Bronze Star for making decisions under fire. He also received a number of other military commendations over the years.

Allen married Colleen Melby on November 25, 2000. They have three children: Christian John, Alaina Christina, and Ericka Marie (Noah Schumann), and was looking forward to his soon-to-be born granddaughter, Caroline. Allen, Colleen, and their family moved into their home in Lake City in 2016, but his heart was always at his lifelong home at Hansen's Harbor.

Among his part-time jobs over the years, he worked many years as a Reserve Police Officer in Lake City, a motor coach driver in Red Wing, and a season as a transit bus driver, also in Red Wing. In his youth he also taught swimming lessons at Suomi College.

Allen volunteered as a Boy Scout Troop Leader for Lake City Troop 94 when his son was in the Scouts. He received his Eagle Scout at the age of 13 along with many other merit badges over his involvement with the Scouts. He also volunteered several years with the Emergency Preparedness Team in Wabasha County with his Ham Radios, as he was a licensed operator. He was also a very active member of the Goodhue County Republicans for many years. He was baptized, confirmed and married at United Lutheran Church in Red Wing. Additionally , he supported the Dawson McAllister Hopeline Ministry, as well as many other organizations and committees throughout the years.

Allen was very generous, giving to organizations as well as people in need. He wanted to bless others financially as he felt lead and blessed to do so. He would put money in purses, Bibles, coat pockets, etc... of people in need. He gave cars, refrigerators, help with moving, snow removal and other tasks to countless people. He always felt that his money was a tool in his box.

Allen is survived by his wife, Colleen; 3 children, Christian John of Fargo, North Dakota, Alaina Christina, and Ericka (Noah Schumann) Hansen both of Lake City; father, Peter Hansen of Lake City; brother, Steven (Christine) Hansen of Apopka, Florida; nieces, Carissa and Nadia Hansen of Durham, North Carolina; uncle, R Nathan "Rocky" (Rachael) Bliss of Minnesota; aunt, Nancy (Tom) Cameron of California and many cousins.
