Obituary for Allan Heins

Allan John Heins, age 87 of Lake City, died Saturday, March 12, 2011, at the Red Wing Health Center in Red Wing. Allan was born on August 10, 1923, in Florence Township, the son of John and Christina (Dankers) Heins. He attended country school, and the School of Agriculture in St. Paul. Allan entered the United States Army on July 11, 1944 and served until August 13, 1946. After being honorably discharged Allan joined the National Guard and served until June 11, 1948. Allan married Adeline Taylor on September 30, 1944 in Mineral Well, Texas. The couple returned to the Lake City area in 1952, where he worked for 28 years as a salesman for Prudential Insurance until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and watching the Twins games. Adeline died on December 19, 2009. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Frontenac, Lake City VFW Bernard Flesh #8729 Post, Lake City American Legion Louis Mc Cahill Post 110, and the Lake City and Frontenac Sportsman's Clubs. Allan was proud to be able to participate in the May 2010 Honor flight to Washington, D.C.
Allan is survived by his daughters, Anita Heins of Red Wing and Yvonne (Dennis) Ostrom of Torrance, California; three grandchildren, Tyler Cronin, Molly Cronin, and Dana Heins. He was preceded in death by his wife Adeline; two sons, Richard and Kenton Heins; and two brothers, Virgil and Milton Heins.

A Memorial Service will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Frontenac with Reverend Christopher Hoppe presiding. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery in Lake City. Online condolences may be sent at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
