Allan Louis Berg, age 78 of Red Wing, formerly of Minneapolis, died on Thursday, July 17, 2008 at The Villa at Hi Park in Red Wing. Allan was born on June 30, 1930 in Centuria, Wisconsin to Leonard and Ida (Swan) Berg. He attended school in rural Polk County and started working at Donaldson's Inc. at the age of 16. He married Beverly Swanson on July 21, 1957 at the Soul's Harbor Church in Minneapolis. He joined the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Donaldson's until his retirement, having worked there for 40 years. After retirement, he worked at the Walker Place in Minneapolis as a bus driver and did handyman work. He enjoyed fishing and had been an usher at Christ Church in Minneapolis.
He is survived by his wife Beverly (Swanson) Berg of Richfield; brothers Leslie Berg of Redondo Beach, CA, Ronald Berg of Minong, WI, and Richard (Darlene) Berg of Andover, MN; sister Charlotte (Edward) Watzl of Welch, MN; brother-in-law John (Beverly) Swanson of Paynesville, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Russell Berg and an infant sister, Anna.
Funeral Service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at New River Assemblies of God Church in Red Wing with Reverend Tom Johnson officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. on Monday at Mahn Family Funeral Homes, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to New River Assembly of God Church or to Fairview Red Wing Hospice.
