Alice Edith Eleanora Stein, 100, of Red Wing, died Wednesday at Fairview Red Wing Medical Center. She was born on May 28, 1906, in Pepin, Wisconsin to Claus and Alma (Brostrom) Larson. She attended schools at Barry Corner near Lund. On May 28, 1924, she was married to Joseph Stein in Red Wing. They farmed in the Lund area. He died in July of 1951. She continued to farm until moving to Red Wing in 1957. For 25 years she worked at Haven Homes as a cook and nurses? aid. In her younger years she was a member of Pepin Hill Free Church where she served as Sunday School Superintendent. Currently, she is a member of First Covenant Church. She was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening and crocheting. She also enjoyed listening to high school girls? and boys? basketball, and Timberwolves? basketball. Her family remembers her for her great cooking and baking. She was famous for her chocolate chip cookies and hosting the family Christmas at her home on Christmas Eve for over 50 years. Survivors include: two daughters, Virginia (Leland) Hanson and Priscilla (Bruce) Eckblad, all of Red Wing; seven grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and six great- great grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one infant granddaughter; four brothers, Lawrence, Edmund, Edward and Raynold Larson; and three sisters, Lillian Lundberg, Helen Maxe and Irene Swanson.Funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday First Covenant Church in Red Wing with Rev. Tim Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Lund Covenant Cemetery, near Lund Wisconsin. Pallbearers will be Gary Ashley, Kevin Frazier, John and Joel Hanson, Dan Struss and Duane Roschen. Honorary pallbearers will be Jody Ashley, Jill Frazier, Shelly Struss, Nikki Roschen and Jackie Eckblad. Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and at the church for one hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred to the church or Fairview Regional Community Services.
