Alice M. Olson, age 89, of Rochester, died Friday, Mar. 16, 2018 in Rochester. Alice Marie Jarmuth was born Feb. 17, 1929 in Jackson, MN to John and Lillian (Sorenson) Jarmuth. She was raised in Jackson and graduated from high school in 1946. In 1950, Alice was proud to have graduated from the Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester and worked as a surgical nurse at the Windom Hospital. On Nov. 8, 1953, she married Oscar E. Olson in Jackson. The couple moved to Rochester in 1957 and operated the Emerson Mid-Town Motel until 1977 when they retired. Alice then worked as a nurse for Shamrock Health Care Services in Rochester. Alice and Oscar were involved in missionary work at the Rockport Indian Reservation in Arizona. She was a charter member of Gethsemane Lutheran Brethren Church of Rochester where she was the church organist for many years, was active in the Women's Ministry and OWLS. Her beloved husband Oscar died Mar. 29, 2007. Alice enjoyed fishing, camping, crocheting, baking, painting and traveling in the western United States. Alice had an unending faith in God and her family was her prize.
Survivors include two daughters Alice (Greg) Murphy of Rochester; and Becky Olson of Plymouth; 5 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, her sister Irene Anderson of Jackson; 2 nieces and 1 nephew. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her great grandson Andrew Preap and her brother Henry Jarmuth.
The celebration of life will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Gethsemane Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Nienow officiating. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Rochester Chapel and one hour before the service at the church. A prayer service will be held at 7 pm on Friday following visitation. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Windom, MN at a later date. Alice's family would like to thank Seasons Hospice staff for the wonderful and compassionate care she received. Alice was very passionate about supporting children undergoing treatment at the Mayo Clinic and their families. Memorials are suggested to Cy's Place at www.cysplace.org
