OBITUARY: Alice A. Closner

Graveside services for Alice A. Closner will be at 1 PM on Monday, February 18, 2008 at the Pine Island Cemetery in Pine Island. Reverend Greg Strunk, of the United Methodist Church, will officiate. Memorials are preferred to the Pine Haven Care Center or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Alice Amelia Closner, age 97, of Pine Island died of natural causes Saturday, February 2, 2008, at the Pine Haven Care Center. She was born December 19, 1910 in Milton Township, Dodge County, to Jacob and Rose (Kubli) Schiesser. She attended rural school and on October 20, 1930 she married Russell S. Closner in Berne. They farmed in Milton Township until retiring in 1972. Russell died on December 2, 1973. Alice moved from the farm to Pine Island. There she continued vegetable gardening and growing the most magnificent violets. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church and Circle, and for a time helped clean the church. She was much loved and has been an inspiration and a role model for many people. During her years on the farm she taught her grandchildren about the rewards of hard work, the thrill of adventure, and the beauty of the land. Alice always had cookies and coffee for friends and family, and especially enjoyed sharing stories and a good laugh. She radiated joy and love.

Alice is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Norma and Richard Wobig of Pine Island; daughter-in-law Dorothy Closner of Pine Island; nine grandchildren; seventeen great-grand children; and four great great-grand children. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Russell; son Samuel Closner of Pine Island; five brothers and four sisters.
