Aleda W. King, age 96, of Zumbrota passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2016 at the Zumbrota Health Services Center. Funeral service will be on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota at 11:00 AM with Pastor Dave Neil officiating. Visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial in Rochester at the Grandview Memorial Gardens.
Aleda Wilma Mensink was born on August 5, 1919 in Fillmore County to William and Nettie (Sheevel) Mensink. She attended country school in the Green Leafton area. She cleaned houses for a few years and also worked as a nurses aid. Aleda married Horace Lee King in Spring Valley on December 11, 1942. Horace left for the service and Aleda lived in Spring Valley as a live in nanny until 1946 when Horace returned from the service and they moved to Rochester. They lived in Stewartville from 1952 to 1973. They traveled to live in Arizona and Missouri before returning to Minnesota and settling in Zumbrota in 1993. Horace passed in 1999, and Aleda continued to live on her own until moving to the Zumbrota Care Center in 2010.
Aleda enjoyed word puzzles, reading, needle work, and spending time with family.
Aleda is survived by her three daughters, Gloria Carpenter of Aurora, CO., Carole (Rod) Anderson of Mankato, and Joyce (Marlen) Greer of Zumbro Falls; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Aleda was preceded in death by her husband, Horace; brother, Merle Mensink; and her parents.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials are prefered to Zumbrota Health Services Center.
