Albertha June Plein, 70, of Red Wing, died Wednesday, October 11, 2006 at Bethesda Rehabilitation Hospital in St. Paul. She was born February 2, 1936 in Red Wing to Willie and Margaret (Mann) Firl. She graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1953 and then worked at LaGrange Shoe factory until she married Harry Plein on March 8, 1958, at First United Methodist Church. She ran her own daycare service, Birdie?s Day Care for 25 years. Harry died March 1, 1993. She was a member of the American Legion and VFW Women?s Auxiliaries and First United Methodist Church. A fan of the Red Wing Aces, she enjoyed playing cards and watching her children?s various school activities. She is survived by three sons: Danny (Mary), Bruce (Kammy) and Jerry (Judy) Plein all of Red Wing: 7 grandchildren; Justin, Katie, Missy, Brooke, Elle, Marcus and Nicholas Plein; her mother, Margaret Hewitt of Plum City; one sister, Joyce Merimonti of Ellsworth and one nephew, Steve (Jennifer) Merimonti of Grapevine, Texas. She was preceded in death by her father, her husband and her step-father, Chuck Hewitt. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, at First United Methodist Church with Reverend Wayne Walther officiating. Burial will be at the Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials preferred to the Red Wing Amateur Baseball Association or donor?s choice.
