Albert "Sonny" Charles White, Wah Cho Geh Nee Gah (One Who Leads), passed away January 6, 2016 at Saint Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN. Albert was born June 22, 1946 to Noah Charles White, Sr. and Blanche Ruby (Johnson) White. He was a graduate of Red Wing Central High School in 1976. He went on to attend the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico from 1976-1978 where he received a degree in printing and a minor in traditional techniques. He then attended The University of Boulder Colorado graduating in 1979 with a Bachelor of Arts in Museumology. He worked at Saint Frances Indian Museum for 2 years and later pursued an education in Indian Studies at BYU.
Albert held many positions at Treasure Island Resort & Casino including money room manager, concessions, and General Manager. He also held positions on Tribal Council and Minnesota Dakota Sioux Housing Authority. He was also a member of the Thunder Clan, The Chiefs Clan and Buffalo Clan as well as many other societies.
Albert is survived by his sons Mark (Ana Negrete) White of Lakeville, Minn. and Arlo (Alison) White; daughter, Clarissa White of New Mexico; Grandchildren, Dustin BearHeels, Ethan Towles, Acelyn Towles, Brad Bryan, Reyana VillaGomez, Athena Negrete and River, Aurora and Quill White; Great Grandson, Sean Bear Heels; Brothers, Danny (Patsy) Seaboy of Sisseton, S.D., Pat (Mary) Bad Hand of Two Strikes, S.D., Joe (Kristen) Halloran and Jim (Bonnie) Clairmont of Saint Paul, Minn., Joe (Sue) Taylor of Red Wing, Minn., Johnny (Terrie) Johnson of Prairie Island, Minn., and Paul (Vera) Dressen of Bay City, Wis.; Sisters, Vivian (Joe) Mireau of Prairie Island, Minn, Deb (Pam) White of Stockholm, Wis., Anne Star and Sandee (Vince) White of Prairie Island, Minn., Imogene (Dominic) Arquero of New Mexico, Eloise Funmaker of Minneapolis, Minn., Kerre (Donnie) Grimes and Posie Johnson of Prairie Island, Minn. and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Noah and Blanche White; daughter Lenna Towles-White; brothers, David White, Sr. and Noah White, Jr.; sister, Mary Rose Morgan and grandparents, Mary (Charles) White Hawk and Albert (Lucy) Johnson.
Funeral Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, January 9, 2016 at the Prairie Island Community Center. Burial will be at the Prairie Island Community Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 p.m. Thursday until the time of the service on Saturday. Services will also be at 7 p.m. both Thursday and Friday evening.
