Albert M. Nygren age 83 of Zumbrota died on Saturday, May 23, 2009 at his home in Zumbrota. A memorial service is scheduled for Thursday, May 28, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the United Redeemer Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Reverend Tom Isaacson officiating. Inurnment will be in United Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, May 27, 2009 from 6:00 ? 8:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home ? Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Albert Magnus Nygren was born on April 4, 1926 in Zumbrota, MN to Martin G. and Lizbeth (nee Brenseth) Nygren. He grew up in rural Zumbrota and attended country school. He was baptized and confirmed at the United Lutheran Church in Zumbrota. He started farming at a young age due to his fathers failing health. On June 25, 1948 he married Dorothy O. Markuson in Kenyon. They farmed in rural Zumbrota until 1968 when they moved into Zumbrota. In 1971 Albert started working for Kielmeyer Construction in Nerstrand and he just retired two weeks ago. At the time of his death, Albert was serving on the board of directors of United Lutheran Cemetery. He served on the board for many years and held various offices. Albert was also a member of United Redeemer Lutheran Church. He enjoyed making Scandinavian blood sausage, metal working in his shop, coffee with his friends and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Albert is survived by his wife of sixty years, Dorothy; sons, Dennis (Nancy) Nygren of Rochester and Bruce (Georgia) Nygren of Lake City; daughters, Nancy (Thomas) Lindrud of Lake City and Wanda (David) Hinrichs of Zumbrota, nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Torkelson of Zumbrota; nieces and nephews. Albert was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Myrtle Mickelson and one nephew, Dean Torkelson. Honorary bearers are his grandchildren, Jeff and Joe Nygren, Angela Nygren-Neid, Brenda Nygren-Moe, Tesha Ramstad, Nicole Udenberg, Brian and Martha Hinrichs and Dena Lindrud-Huettl. The family suggests memorials to Seasons Hospice or Life Source - Program for Organ Donation
