Agnette “Nettie” Katherina Peterson, 91, of Bay City, Wisconsin, died Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at United Hospital in St. Paul. She was born March 30, 1929 to Martin and Agnes (Thunell) Simonson in Markville, Minn. and moved to Red Wing when she was six months old. She attended Red Wing schools and then went to work at Red Wing Pottery for four years. On September 24, 1949 she married Seth Peterson at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Welch. Together they farmed for many years in Welch Township. In 1988, the couple retired and moved to Bay City. While on the farm, Nettie enjoyed her flower garden and picking raspberries in the woods. She also enjoyed butchering chickens and helping to birth the baby lambs. She was an excellent cook and could bake delicious breads. She loved a good cup of coffee and a glazed doughnut and also enjoyed the occasional McDonald’s Happy Meal. She loved to travel and she and Seth attended many of his Army reunions. A wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Nettie will be remembered for always putting the need of others ahead of her own.
She will be missed by many, including her eight children; Garnet Nygren of Red Wing, Frank (Carol) Peterson of Bay City, Margaret (Calvin) Pflaum of Farmington, Carol (John) Shinske of St. Petersburg, Florida, Wayne Peterson of Welch, Linda (Daniel) Smith of Red Wing, Lisa (Donald) Tesch of New Port Richey, Florida and Mary (Brian) Nordby of Bay City; 22 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, June Peterson of Welch as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Seth; two sons, Paul and Seth David; brother, Hilding Simonson; sisters Grace Hauschildt and Nita Henning who was Nettie’s twin; son-in-law, Rod Nygren and daughter-in-law, Gwen Peterson
A private family graveside will be held at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the church.
