Agnes Blakstad

Agnes L. Blakstad age 91 of Zumbrota, formerly of Wanamingo died on Friday, December 21, 2007 at the Zumbrota Health Services. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, December 27, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Minneola Lutheran Church in rural Zumbrota with Reverend Sarah Nietz officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Agnes Lenore Brekke was born on April 1, 1916 in Leon Township, Goodhue County, MN to Martin J. and Ida (nee Hanson) Brekke. She grew up in the Sogn and Hader areas and attended country school. Agnes and her brother Leonard farmed the Hanson family farm. On August 21, 1944 she married Peter C. Blakstad at Minneola Lutheran Church. They farmed in the Hader area. Peter died on November 11, 1979. In 1980 Agnes moved to Wanamingo and in July of 2005 she moved to Zumbrota. Agnes was a member of Minneola Lutheran Church and was active in its ladies aid and quilting group. She enjoyed reading, quilting, gardening, and crossword puzzles. Agnes is survived by her daughter, Sandra Thomforde of Rochester, her son, Mark Blakstad of Farmington, her granddaughter, Michele Thomforde of New Hope and her grandson, Brett Thomforde of Rochester.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter, two sisters, Myrtle Magee and Junice McCoy, one brother, Leonard Brekke and one nephew Michael McCoy. The family suggests memorials to the Minneola Lutheran Church for worship purposes.
Agnes's family wishes to express their sincerest thanks to the staff and nurses at Zumbrota Health Services and Season's Hospice for the wonderful care that Agnes received.
