Adeline Dorothy Sophia Deden, age 92, passed away on Monday, March 21, 2016 at Loving Residence in Red Wing.
Adeline was a life-long resident of Red Wing. She taught school in a one-room school house, was a homemaker and active with the Goodhue County Historical Society. She is best remembered for her joy in sharing meals with her family and friends and her zest for games that engaged family members of all ages. She loved baking cookies and bars. She also had a love for poetry and enjoyed memorizing her favorite poems. She believed in the importance of family get-togethers and maintaining family ties.
She is survived by: 3 sons, Niles (Sue Pedersen), Jerome (Mary Bell), Ross (Deborah Edon), 7 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; Charles and Dora Hayman, her husband; Vincent Deden, three brothers; Robert Hayman, Wilbur Hayman, and Milton Hayman, and two sisters; Edith Hayman and Janet Golisch.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at St. John's Lutheran Church with Reverend Todd Engel officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at church.
Adeline suffered a stroke in the fall of 2002 that left her "legally blind" although she continued to play cribbage for another ten years. She started listening to audio books from Minnesota Talking Books program in December of 2002 and has listened to over 2,460 books, averaging a book every two days. This made her one of their all-time top listeners! The family recommends memorials go to the Talking Book program. http://education.state.mn.us/MDE/index.html
