Aaron Berkeley Kimball

August 30, 1927 — June 25, 2020

Aaron Berkeley Kimball, 92, of Red Wing, passed away at home on Thursday, June 25, 2020, with family by his side. He was born on August 30, 1927, in Red Wing to Sidney and Mabel (Groetsch) Kimball. He grew up in Bay City, WI and attended Red Wing High School. A lasting souvenir of his childhood was his mischievous crooked smile, imparted by a kick in the mouth by his horse. On December 7, 1945, Aaron was sworn into the United States Army and served in Korea until July 15, 1947. Aaron and Shirley May Oliver were married on June 29, 1948, at First Lutheran Church in Red Wing. They spent the first years of their marriage and family life living on Trenton Island. They eventually moved to Red Wing to Shirley's "dream" home, a place she had admired since her school days. During the course of his life, Aaron worked for Phillips Petroleum and Mobil Oil as a bulk agent. He took pride in keeping his customers, especially the farmers, well supplied. He was known to take emergency calls at any time, even at 2 a.m. on Christmas morning. After retiring from Mobil Oil, he worked as the maintenance manager of Jordan Tower I, in downtown Red Wing. However, missing their own home, the couple left the Towers and Aaron completed his working years at Behren's Auto Supply. He spent 20 years as a Red Wing Volunteer Firefighter and retired as a Captain of Hose Company 1. He was a member of First Lutheran Church and the Red Wing Wildlife League. He spent many years camping at Camp Brigadoon in Cumberland, WI. Aaron enjoyed hunting and fishing along with meeting people and making new friends. He also loved watching ballgames and had played baseball as a young man on a local league, as well as the church softball league later.

He will be missed by his children, Cheryl (Tom) Sasse and Brad (Janis) Kimball, all of Red Wing; six grandchildren, Joshua (Heather) Sasse, Krista (Jeremy) Belanger, Charles (Heidi) Kimball, Andrew (Sarah) Kimball, Aaron (Emily) Sasse, and Chelsie (Alex) Schmidt; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Jagger, Declan, Sierra, and Ingrid Sasse, Aiden, Savaya, and Finley Schmidt, and Mira Kimball and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley; and siblings, Orpha Paulson, Sidney Kimball, and Arlene Kimball.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 3, 2020, at First Lutheran Church in Red Wing with Reverend Arthur Sharot officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place following the service at 12 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery. Due to the coronavirus pandemic social distancing is required and face masks are encouraged at all events. Memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church or Mayo Red Wing Hospice. Arrangements made by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
