Leslie Martin Flemke was born the second of three sons to Gustav and Martha (Hartke) Flemke in Vergas, Minnesota on November 8, 1917. His parents were German immigrants and faithful Lutherans and Leslie's early years were marked by his baptism on December 16, 1917 and confirmation on May 24, 1931.
The Flemkes were dairy farmers and left Vergas in 1942 for Bay City, Wisconsin, and in 1948 they settled in the Pine Island area, farming at the Anderson place in Roscoe Township.
It was at the next farm up the road in 1949 that Leslie met and courted Miss Della Mae Krause, his one and only love. They married at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Pine Island, in 1950.
Leslie was a gentle, kind, and loving presence to all who met him. His faith and his family were everything to him. As a young man he dreamed of becoming a pastor, but the Depression kept him on the farm. Leslie's life was greatly enriched by his continued membership at St. Paul's, where he served in multiple capacities including teaching Sunday school, serving on the the church counsel, and using his carpentry skills to help build the new church in 1969.
Leslie was an active member of the Pine Island community and loved singing with the Pine Ears. He was also a member and treasurer of the Pine Island School Board for 9 years.
Leslie and Della Mae raised two sons, Joel L. Flemke and Ronald L. Flemke. They stayed on the Anderson Farm long enough for it to be known as the Flemke Farm, working together with Della Mae's brother, Donald Krause, who bought the farm next to theirs. Leslie and Della Mae spent their later years traveling and even went back to Germany to meet Leslie's relatives.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Della Mae of Pine Island; his sons Joel (Nancy) Flemke and Ronald (Sue) Flemke of Pine Island; five grandchildren; Emily (Eric) Applen of Rochester; Michael (Tracy) Flemke of Rochester; Aaron (Alison) Flemke of Pine Island; Ryan (Karla) Flemke of Rochester; and Jason Flemke and his long time companion Hailey Champa, of Pine Island. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Donald Krause, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Edmund and Otto Flemke, and sister-in-law Mildred Krause.
