Karen Lillie Carlon, 76, of Red Wing, died Friday, August 25, 2017, at the Mayo Health System in Red Wing. She was born on April 15, 1941 in Lake City, to Edward and Roselia (Burfiend) Steffenhagen. She attended schools in Red Wing and on May 24, 1963, she married Bernard "Bing" Carlon at United Lutheran Church. For 16 years she worked for Riviera Cabinets and then for 10 years at Treasure Island Casino. Bing died on January 12, 1999. Mark Vinge has been her soul mate for 16 years and they have enjoyed many special times together with family and friends. She was a member of United Lutheran Church, the Red Hat Society and Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post #54 Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing, reading, collecting dolls, lunching and squirrel hunting.
Karen is survived by her soulmate, Mark Vinge of Red Wing; five children, Kandise (David) Zethren of Brooklyn Park, Pam (Brian) Johnson of Red Wing, Michelle (Dawn Dankers) Hovey of Minneapolis, Tim (Mitchell Hughes) Carlon of Oakland, Calif., and Polly (Howie Hanson) Carlon of Bay City, nine grandchildren, Cal, Courtney, Sam, Kate, Nick, Kim, Jenn, Matthew and Halle; 12 great grandchildren, Cameron, Eva, J.P., Naomi, Gage, Riley, Ryder, Izzy, Gilbert, Gabby, Bennett and Henry; her special niece, Shari Wilson of Eagan along with other beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one sister, Lila Wilson and one infant brother.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Red Wing, due to construction. Burial will be at the Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 29, 2017, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and at the church for one hour prior to the services. Memorials are preferred to the Red Wing Food Shelf or donor's choice. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
