Janice Marie DeVries, 64, of Red Wing, died on October 26, 2023 at her home surrounded by her loving family after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born in Red Wing, Minnesota on December 2, 1958 to Duane and Juanita (Peixoto) Turnbell. Janice lived in the state of Virginia for a few years, but the majority of her life was spent in Red Wing. She graduated from RWHS, class of 1977. Many people recognized her as the friendly face at John’s Speedy Mart or as the owner of Jan’s Lunch Box in the Red Wing Mall. Others knew her as a friend and coworker at Koozie group, where she worked for 19 years. For the last several years Janice helped families pick the perfect tree or wreath at Rush River Tree Farm. Janice truly enjoyed living and working in the community she loved, either through her professional career or local activism. She also loved cheering on the Vikings, watching HGTV, playing bingo with her girls, cruising, and the world’s largest cup of coffee. Janice’s greatest joys were her granddaughter and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by two daughters Angela (Ryan) Prescott and Stacy DeVries; one granddaughter, Alexis DeVries; two great-grandchildren, Azai Loften and Le’Asia Loften; partner Wade Hase; parents, Juanita and Duane Turnbell; four siblings, Guy (Karen) Turnbell, Wendy (Bob) Everett, Tony Turnbell, and Dianne Turnbell; two nieces, Ceri Everett and Stephanie Turnbell; four nephews, Steven Turnbell, Brian Turnbell, Robbie Turnbell and Austin Turnbell along with a very large extended family, including friends, co-workers, and local activists who she loved dearly.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
