Duane I. Whipple, 76, of Goodhue, died Thursday, March 7, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born July 10, 1942 to Harry and Lillian (Groth) Whipple in Red Wing, Minnesota. He grew up in Cannon Falls and attended high school there. He met his future wife, Judy Peterson, while on a blind date and the couple was married on January 13, 1962. Together they made their home in Goodhue where they raised their five children. Duane worked for Meyer Industries for 42 years. He enjoyed gunsmithing, scrapping, and hunting. He collected vintage tractors which he would drive in local parades. He also enjoyed tending to his garden and visiting with friends down at Dressen's Saloon in Hay Creek.
He is survived by his children, Peggy (Al) Speetzen of Clyde, Texas, Wade (Christy) of Prescott, Wis., Guy (Denise) of Mazeppa, and Tony of Goodhue; 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and one great grandchild on the way; siblings, Gerald Whipple, Gail (Gene) Christians and Carol Whipple; his beloved little dog, Missy; and many good friends and neighbors.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Judy; infant daughter, Shoni; siblings, Clair Whipple, Myron Whipple and Audrey Schmidt.
A visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, Red Wing. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
