Dan Rainwater, 91, of Red Wing, died on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at Deer Crest Assisted Living in Red Wing. Dan was born on May 5, 1926, in Lawrenceville, IL to Raymond and Nell (Kaser) Rainwater. After early graduation, he moved to Alaska where he worked on the AL-CAN Highway until he was drafted into the United States Navy, serving during World War II. Upon his return to civilian life, he attended Iowa State University and received a degree in Engineering. He married Bobbette Bishop in 1952 in Red Oak, Iowa. The couple moved to the Red Wing area, and Dan worked at Josten's for 39 years until his retirement. Dan was a music enthusiast and was an accomplished lifelong drummer. After retirement, he greatly enjoyed his conversations with his men's coffee group; was a member of the Kiwanis and the Sheldon Brass Band. He enjoyed gardening, especially growing apples, spending time at the cabin, and sailing on Lake Pepin.
Dan is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Bobbette of Lake City; children, Danette Rainwater of Oregon, William (Cheryl) Rainwater of Red Wing, Mary (Mike) Stori of Lake City, and James (Margo) Rainwater of Lake City; grandchildren, Orion Rainwater of Minneapolis, Ian Rainwater of Iowa, Andrew Stori of Mankato, and Nell Bluth of Orono; and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Mac Rainwater; and granddaughter, Rachel Stori.
A celebration of life for Dan will be held on Friday, September 8, 2017 from 5-7 p.m. at Mahn Family Funeral Home-Bodelson Mahn Chapel. Memorials may be sent in Dan's honor to the Alzheimer's Association. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.mahnfamilyfuenralhome.com.
